Earlier this week, Etihad Airways launched a competition to invite four young Emirati fashion designers to design new in-flight casual wear.
With local designers on the rise, Etihad has chosen to nurture local talent and attract artists in a way no other airline has ever done. Organized in conjunction with UAE fashion publication Zahrat Al Khaleej, the competition aims to attract four designers specializing in loungewear.
Rowdah Al Shaafar (A Friend of Mine by Xpoze), Manaal Al Hammadi (Manaal Al Hammadi), Asma Al Matrooshi (Epiphany) and Aiisha Al Marri (1981 Boutique) will compete next week to win the Design Award for Q1 2018, at In Etihad’s First Class and The Residence on an Airbus A380, there are two additional business class tickets for one of Etihad’s sponsored fashion weeks.
Beginning October 18, the public is encouraged to vote on Zahrat Al Khaleej’s social media channels. Two finalists will then be selected to develop a prototype design. The winner will be chosen based on post-flight comfort, style and wearability.
Linda Celestino, Vice President Customer Experience and Delivery, Etihad Airways, said: “As the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, we sponsor 17 international fashion weeks and engaging local designers and audiences was a logical step for us. , this is the perfect platform to do so. I can’t wait to see what these incredible designers have in store for us.”
Design themes had to be strongly influenced by the UAE and UAE, incorporating traditional patterns, accents, local colours, and had to be modern and stylish.
