LOS ANGELES AND NEW YORK, Jan. 24, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — City National Bank It was announced today that Martha Henderson, the bank’s longtime executive vice president of entertainment banking, will assume the newly created role of vice chairman of entertainment banking. JaHan Wang, former head of entertainment banking at East Coast, has been promoted to executive vice president of entertainment banking.
As vice chairman, Henderson will continue to play an important role in Entertainment Banking, particularly in the organization’s work with clients and strategy.
When she joined City National, Henderson was one of just 16 colleagues on the bank’s fledgling Entertainment Banking team. She was named Operations Leader in 1989. Under her leadership, City National’s team of 250 associates now provides financial expertise to more than 90 percent of entertainment business managers, more than half of Broadway shows, more than 80 percent of the country music industry in Nashville, and the sports and Latin entertainment industries some of the famous people. She led Entertainment Banking’s strategic expansion into New York and opened the bank’s first offices in Atlanta and Nashville’s Music Row in 2011 and most recently in Miami in 2019. (City National conducts business in Florida as CN Bank.)
“City National has a long and rich history of supporting the entertainment industry since its founding in 1954,” said City National CEO Kelly Coffey. “I would like to congratulate Martha in her new role and appreciate that we will continue to benefit from her wealth of experience as she works closely with JaHan in her new role as Vice Chair. We thank Martha for her decades of leadership and for her support in our organization left an indelible mark.”
The media has repeatedly identified Henderson as one of the most powerful executives in Hollywood. Barron’s called her “the Greta Garbo of private banking.” The Wrap named her one of its 2020 “Women Who Saved Hollywood” for her leadership during the pandemic.
Henderson’s legacy extends beyond the city’s national team. She is also a long-time supporter of Project Angel Food and is a member of the Circle of Angels. She serves on the boards of the Friends of Saban Community Clinic and Geffen Playhouse, where she previously served as co-chair and volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles.
“I would also like to congratulate JaHan, who is very client-focused and has been instrumental in our entertainment banking organization since joining in 2007,” said Coffey. “He is an outstanding leader and the perfect example of the entrepreneurial spirit that defines our culture. His contributions and vision have helped us keep pace with the ever-changing needs of a vibrant and vibrant entertainment community.”
Wang has been with City National for 16 years and has been Head of East Coast Entertainment Banking since May 2021. He has over 30 years of banking experience and since joining the team has held a series of increasingly senior roles within Entertainment Banking as Vice President and Senior Credit Officer. Prior to joining City National, Wang worked as a relationship banker at Citibank’s National Corporate Bank. He started his career as a relationship banker in JP Morgan’s mid-sized corporate banking division.
Wang was named to the Class of 2022 by Leadership Music, a highly selective national nonprofit educational program and forum for prominent music industry leaders. Active in the community, he has been volunteering with New York Cares since 2017, supporting numerous charitable organizations in and around New York and serving as a mentor for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles since 2020. Wang is also a member of the Central Park Conservancy’s Business Leadership Council starting in 2022.
Wang has joined the bank’s executive committee and reports directly to City National president Rich Raffetto.
