Tianjin Port Group and Huawei announced that the two companies will deepen their cooperation to create the world’s first digital twin of intelligent, unmanned, and zero-carbon port terminals, making it more automated and intelligent.
Yang Jiemin, vice president of Tianjin Port Group, explained that the plan consists of three parts: building new automated terminals, upgrading traditional terminals and comprehensive digital transformation.
Tianjin Port Beijiang Port Area C Terminal is the world’s first intelligent driverless zero-carbon port terminal. It entered large-scale commercial operation in October 2021 and has been operating steadily since then, a statement said.
Use 5G and L4 autonomous driving technology at the terminal to make operations safer and more efficient. At the dock, the remote-controlled quay crane lifts the loaded container from the cargo ship and puts it on the intelligent robot for horizontal transportation. With the support of the Beidou satellite navigation system, the robots are guided to the automatic locking/unlocking station to load and unload containers, and then follow the optimal driving route calculated in real time to reach the container yard. The whole thing runs with clockwork precision.
Jamin introduced how the new solution combining 5G and L4 autonomous driving technology has been commercialized on a large scale in some public scenarios for the first time in the C-section terminal. This provides a new model for the upgrading and transformation of traditional container terminals around the world.
