Lhasa [Tibet]Jan. 27 (ANI): Chinese authorities have detained a 30-year-old Tibetan writer and former teacher in Tibet over his alleged contacts with exiles abroad, US non-profit news organization Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported.
The writer, named Palgon, was arrested at his home in August 2022 and has remained in isolation since, RFA reported. “There is no information yet on where he is being held,” one source said.
“Aside from Pargon’s contact with exiles to pray to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, his family was not informed or informed of the valid reasons for his arrest,” the source added.
Palgon is from Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province in southeastern China.

He used to be an elementary school teacher in Baima County, the state. However, he later resigned his post to continue as an independent writer.
China has arrested monks, writers, young protesters and other Tibetan figures in a wide-ranging crackdown over the past few months. Detainees are often held incommunicado for months before being sentenced.
Dava Tsering, director of the India-based Tibet Policy Institute, said the arrests showed China was trying to prevent Tibetans from communicating with the outside world.
“The Chinese government doesn’t want the international community to know about their harsh policies against Tibetans in terms of religion, culture and language,” he was quoted as saying by Radio Free Asia.
Radio Free Asia contacted the police in Baima and Guoluo counties but could not reach them for comment.
The Tibet Press recently reported that China denies the ancient individual existence of Tibet, claiming it is part of the mainland. The legality China asserts is based on an illegal agreement in 1951.
According to the Tibet Press, on May 23, 1951, a person who had no legal authority to represent Tibet signed the Agreement on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet, also known as the 17-point agreement.
China has pledged to keep the integrity of Tibetan traditions and religion, as well as the local customs of local ethnic groups unhindered, according to the Tibet Press.
The report further wrote that the agreement in question was signed through coercive means without any legal validity. However, failure to abide by the agreement led to the suppression of the 1959 Tibetan uprising and forced the 14th Dalai Lama to flee to India with his followers, it said. (Arnie)
