Discussions are underway as the Philippine government tries to expand a free trade agreement (FTA) with India, Asia’s second-largest economy, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with other countries, a trade official said.
Assistant Trade Minister Allan Gepty told reporters last week that discussions with representatives of the two countries had begun and arrangements were being made for next steps.
“For India, our goal is to have a preferential trade agreement. So, it will only cover trade in goods. There will be no rules or market access,” Gupti said on the sidelines of the British Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines’ 2023 Outlook Forum in Makati express.
“For the UAE, we basically just rolled out [the manifestation]intends to start a comprehensive economic partnership agreement,” he added.
