The Mohamed Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) revealed on Saturday that the UAE has chosen a major landing site for the lunar mission.
The UAE Space Agency revealed that the Rashid rover-which is the first Arab mission to the moon-will land in Lacus Somniorum, also known as the Lake of Dreams, an area that has not yet been explored.
It added that three alternate landing sites have also been identified.
Lacus Somniorum is located on the northeast side of the moon and is characterized by a unique composition formed by basalt lava flows, making it red.
The selection process is part of coordinating work with iSpace and members of the UAE lunar mission science team.
The UAE lunar mission is one of the initiatives under the Mars 2117 plan, which aims to establish a human colony on Mars.
The team recently completed assembly and integration The first prototype of the rover.

The rover was named after the late former ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid bin Said Al Maktoum, and was originally planned to be launched in 2024. It is now planned to launch the Space X Falcon 9 rocket from Florida, USA at the end of next year.
