A restaurant in Abu Dhabi has been shut down for violating food hygiene rules after several customers complained of food poisoning.
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (Adafsa) said it issued an executive order to close Burger Al Arab restaurant and cafeteria facilities in Abu Dhabi, citing a threat to public health.
Authorities have closed the restaurant after multiple poisonings were reported after customers ate roast chicken rice contaminated with salmonella. The poisoning incident was due to the branch not following proper practices in the storage, handling and preparation of food.
Officials said the restaurant failed to maintain sanitation when preparing food and had poor food storage.
The administrative closure order will remain in effect until violations are corrected and restaurants meet necessary food safety requirements to ensure public safety.
All food establishments are subject to regular inspections by authority inspectors to ensure compliance with food safety requirements, the Adafsa statement said.
Residents have been urged to report any irregularities in food outlets or concerns about food ingredients to the Abu Dhabi Government toll-free number 800555 so that legal action can be taken.
