The upcoming Arabian Travel Fair (ATM) in Dubai has implemented an ‘Exhibitor Environmental Checklist’ and introduced a new ‘Most Sustainable Stand’ award to ensure the show is the most climate-conscious in its history .
The 30th edition of ATM will be held at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) from May 1st to 4th.
Developed by exhibition organizer Reed Exhibitions (RX) and in line with ATM 2023’s theme of ‘Strive for Net Zero’, the new list was created with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in mind. It provides participants with practical advice on how to manage waste, minimize energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions, as well as guidelines on how to create greener promotional materials and stands.
By introducing the “Most Sustainable Stand” category in the ATM 2023 Best of Stand Awards, RX aims to emphasize the importance of “green thinking” at major conferences and exhibitions. Entries will be judged on a wide range of sustainable criteria, including supplier selection, material use, operational efficiency, and even the condition of the booth after the show.
Danielle Curtis, ME Exhibition Director, Arabian Travel Market, said: “We really had to think outside the box this year when it came to supporting and encouraging sustainability. From an internal perspective, our team implemented a series of purposeful innovations and changes such as the elimination of printed show guides, QR codes for scanning purposes and digital lead capture to eliminate the need for exhibitors to distribute brochures.”
“We believe that by engaging stakeholders with tools and initiatives such as our Exhibitor Environmental Checklist and Most Sustainable Stand Category, ATM 2023 will not only set new benchmarks for sustainability in exhibition spaces in the Middle East, but will also Help drive climate-conscious decision-making – enabling travel, tourism and hospitality across the region,” Curtis added.
Other on-site innovations that will shape ATM 2023 and future editions include banning single-use plastics throughout the venue, water refill stations, reducing the amount of printed graphics and signage, and using recycled displays throughout the venue.
On a wider level, ATM 2023 will explore the future of sustainable travel under its theme ‘Towards Net Zero Emissions’. Following the official launch of the Net Zero Tour, the conference program will explore how innovative sustainable travel trends may evolve, allowing delegates to identify growth strategies for key verticals, while providing a platform for regional experts to explore a sustainable future ahead of COP28, It will be held in Dubai Expo City in November 2023.
