ABU DHABI – Following the Abu Dhabi-Singapore Smart City Open Innovation Challenge, jointly organized by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) and IPI, six Singaporean companies have partnered with the Abu Dhabi Zabi entity pairing to develop and pilot innovative solutions in Singapore.
The announcement was made during the 14th Abu Dhabi-Singapore Joint Forum (ADSJF) in Abu Dhabi.
Launched in May 2021, the Innovation Challenge aims to accelerate the development of smart cities and foster wider cooperation between Abu Dhabi and Singapore. Eighty-nine submissions were received against six challenging statements by ADNOC, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and Masdar City. Based on their potential to solve Abu Dhabi’s smart city challenges, the Abu Dhabi entity has selected six companies to co-innovate and develop targeted solutions.
Abdulla Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Acting Director General of ADIO, said: “The Abu Dhabi-Singapore Smart City Open Innovation Challenge demonstrates the benefits of bringing like-minded parties together for a common cause. By matching innovations and ideas, we are advancing meaningful Solutions that could change the development of smart cities around the world. The success of the innovation call will pave the way for future innovation-related collaborations between Abu Dhabi and Singapore as we strengthen ties and enable companies from both cities to access the wider regional market.”
Selected companies will receive support from ADIO and EnterpriseSG as they partner with ADNOC, DMT and Masdar City to bring their smart city solutions to Abu Dhabi.
Eligible companies will be able to take advantage of EnterpriseSG grants to pilot their solutions, while ADIO will provide end-to-end support during the business setup phase of their investor journey and help facilitate connections with entities in the Abu Dhabi ecosystem to gain Investment Opportunities.
Tan Soon Kim, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of EnterpriseSG, said: “Singaporean companies can provide relevant expertise and innovative technologies to address some of the urban challenges facing Abu Dhabi. By partnering with established Abu Dhabi entities to co-innovate and test them ideas, they can validate their solutions and speed up the process of smart city development, benefiting more people. Through the call for innovation, Abu Dhabi and Singapore aim to accelerate the development of smart cities to sustainably improve quality of life, operational efficiency and competitiveness. The Innovation Call will strengthen collaboration, connect innovation ecosystems, and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between Abu Dhabi and Singapore.
Match innovative ideas with the right partners
HY M&E Consultancy Services and Cutech Green Ventures, in partnership with Teesside University and TWI Global Technology Centre, have been selected to work with ADNOC to improve the energy efficiency of Al Dannah City buildings.
Graymatics has been selected by ADNOC to work on a project that utilizes powerful video AI and the many CCTVs installed across the city of Al Dannah to improve security, citizen productivity and municipal operations.
BIODSG has been selected to work with DMT to transform street lighting for public participation, such as street lighting or data collection.
Daily Life Renewable Energy will work with DMT to implement renewable and sustainable energy for facilities requiring electricity in public recreation areas.
MDesign Solutions Pte Ltd will work with Masdar City to enhance outdoor comfort through cost-effective and self-contained solutions utilizing thermal management technology and design.
The pilot project is expected to be completed by 2024, with the potential for a city-wide implementation in Abu Dhabi.
