The record-breaking Anett Kontaveit will be one of the biggest attractions when the World Tennis Federation kicks off at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena in December.

The Estonian is the first player from her country to finish second in the WTA rankings, and in 2021 she is also the first player from her country to reach the WTA Finals, which includes the top eight players of the season and has won Runner-up – until Garbine Muguruza.

Kontaveit will join the World Tennis League (December 19-24), which includes players such as Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek.

Many of the world’s top tennis stars will be vying for the title and fans will be entertained by top musical acts Tiësto, deadmau5, Wizkid, Armin van Buuren, Mohamed Ramadan or Ne-Yo after matches each night.

The 18 players will be divided into four teams for a round robin match, with two men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles matches each night, with a tiebreaker in the event of a tie.

The two teams winning the first five nights will face off in the final.

Kontaveit will compete as part of the Hawks alongside Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem and Elena Rybakina.

“Really looking forward to playing the World Tennis League in front of you in Dubai in December and joining the Eagles with Sasha, Elena and Dominic. Really looking forward to playing and starting the season in such a fantastic location and climate in Dubai ’, Kontaveit said.

Kontaveit is a six-time WTA champion with another 10 runner-up trophies. The 2022 Doha finalist lost to Serena Williams after a grueling two-and-a-half-hour match at the US Open in what was expected to be Williams’ final career win, and she could also be on record Find a place in the book.

Her success prompted the WTA to host a tour in Estonia at the end of September, with Kontaveit thrilling her supporters all the way to the final.
