Emirates News Agency – QCC adopts Abu Dhabi Active Workplace Technical Code

ABU DHABI, 9th February, 2023 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, QCC, has announced the adoption of the Abu Dhabi Active Workplace Technical Standard, aimed at promoting cultural workplaces in sports, fitness and physical activity, to Improving the health and wellness of employees, which in turn creates an active society.

The guidelines were adopted at the 43rd meeting of the Abu Dhabi Technical Standards Technical Committee at the request of the Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council to ensure and enable organizations to promote and create workplace Physical activity and instil health and fitness awareness among employees, which ultimately leads to higher productivity as well.

Badr Khamis Al Shumaili, Executive Director of the Commission’s Compliance Services and Standards Division, said that these technical standards will help lead to improved healthy lifestyles, enhance the well-being of employees, reduce medical costs, and in turn improve their ability to focus, stamina, time management etc.

He added that the intangible benefits of the standards included enhancing the reputation of the organisation, increasing employee satisfaction and loyalty, while praising the role of the Ministry of Community Development in working with government and semi-government agencies to conceive the guidelines.

Mohamed Helal Al Balooshi, Executive Director of Community Engagement and Sports at the Ministry of Community Development, said the adoption of the Abu Dhabi Positive Workplace Technology Standard is an important milestone for the ministry to motivate members of society to find a place to work. Balance work, exercise and health in their lifestyle. “This has allowed us to develop a sustainable community sports culture that promotes a lifestyle of daily physical activity that will significantly improve the health and wellbeing of the Abu Dhabi community.”

He added that the standards, developed following a thorough analysis of the Physical Activity Quality of Life Questionnaire, were designed to support and motivate employers to promote a culture of physical activity. This not only improves a healthy lifestyle, but also increases the mental and physical focus of employees, thereby increasing their productivity, which helps ensure employee well-being, increases happiness rates, and creates an active society.

Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of Sports Development at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasized that the Council encourages all efforts and initiatives to create a working environment that supports physical activity and sport as such a working environment helps to promote the concept The instruction of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan to develop community sports and improve the health of the Abu Dhabi community.

“We are delighted to provide all support to the Abu Dhabi Quality and Compliance Council following its adoption of the Abu Dhabi Positive Work Environment Technical Standard, which aims to promote physical activity in institutions and entities with the ultimate goal of improving the health of employees and creating An active society,” Al Hashemi said.

He noted that Abu Dhabi Sports Council seeks to implement the philosophy of promoting a culture of physical activity at work in line with leading practices by launching community sport initiatives and supporting Abu Dhabi institutions in their efforts to serve the community. He also emphasizes that such efforts to instill a culture of physical activity in the work environment can have a significant positive impact on employee health and productivity.

Al Hashemi added: “As directed by the Council, we are pleased to see an active work environment. Active workplaces help to promote healthy lifestyles, improve employee well-being, reduce medical costs, and improve mental focus by enhancing , stamina and time management skills increase employee productivity and ability, which has a positive impact on work ethic and empowers individuals.”

Commenting on the standards, the Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development said that many entities were involved in the development of the guidelines.
