GAZA CITY, Feb. 13 (AP) – Residents of the Gaza Strip say Israeli aircraft launched a series of airstrikes on militant sites in the Palestinian coastal territory early Monday.
The airstrike appeared to be in response to rocket fire by Palestinian militants into southern Israel on Saturday night. Israeli air defenses intercepted the rocket.
The Israeli military said the strikes targeted an underground rocket manufacturing base run by the militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. No casualties have been reported so far.
The Gaza-Israel border has been largely calm in recent months, despite intermittent rocket and air strikes amid escalating violence between Israel and Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. (Associated Press)
