India, led by PV Sindhu, will face Kazakhstan in the Badminton Asian Mixed Team Championships (14-19 February) at Dubai Expo Exhibition Center on Tuesday.
Opening day will see top teams, including defending champions China, battle it out in their respective groups.
Asian powerhouses China face Uzbekistan in Group A, while fellow top seeds Japan (Group D) and Indonesia (Group C) face Pakistan and Syria in their opening games.
The hosts, meanwhile, will be drawn in Group B with Malaysia in the second match.
The top two teams in each of the four groups will advance to the knockout stage, which begins on day 4 of the tournament.
The semi-finals will take place on Saturday, while the final is scheduled for Sunday, February 19.
A large number of Indians are expected to turn up at the venue to cheer for the Indian team, which will be led by two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu.
“It’s always been great to play in Dubai. Three years ago I was in Dubai for the BWF Superseries Finals. Team tournaments are always different; I love the atmosphere here. I hope we can do well at the event,” Sinder nonsense.
Japan’s mixed doubles specialist Yuta Watanabe is also delighted to be here and is looking forward to starting the opening match in Group D.
“I am very happy to be in Dubai and play some good games in front of the Dubai crowd. I will try to do my best for my team,” Watanabe said.
Indonesia’s No. 2 men’s singles player in the world, Ginting, is full of expectations for the game, believing that it will be a “exciting contest”.
China will have names like 2019 Chinese gold medalist Zhao Junpeng and 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Huang Dongping.
Malaysia, meanwhile, will be headlined by their star doubles duo Su Weiyi and Aaron Xie
