Test of equipment equipped with multi-directional sensors and reliable fleet management system declared a success

Aramex announced on Tuesday that it successfully tested its drone and roadside robot deliveries in Dubai. This is part of the company’s “Future Delivery Initiative,” which aims to enhance last-mile logistics using smart transport solutions for faster, more sustainable and cost-effective deliveries.

The initial tests were conducted at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in partnership with BARQ EV, the UAE’s leading provider of commercial drone delivery services, and Kiwibot, a Columbia-based company specializing in delivery robotics.

Aramex utilizes the drone delivery technology provided by BARQ EV, which is capable of multiple consecutive flights over long distances and in different environments. Equipped with multi-directional sensors and a reliable fleet management system, these drones enable Aramex to achieve high precision in order placement, dispatch management, drone flight routing and delivery.

In addition, Kiwibot’s self-driving ground vehicles use a combination of high-tech sensors, cameras, radar and artificial intelligence to navigate their surroundings and obstacles. It also uses an advanced GPS navigation system to generate a virtual map, establish multiple routes, and change routes based on delays or obstacles.

The tests were carried out with the support of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSO), Dubai Future Foundation and Dubai Smart City.

The move follows the success of Aramex Autonomous drone delivery tested in Muscat, Oman. Aramex plans to expand its drone and robotic delivery testing in the Middle East and Africa region, as well as other core markets where it operates.
