A spokesman for a government entity said Dubai was now becoming a top destination for “bleisure” travel as more people flew into the city for both business and leisure needs.
“The demographics of visitors to Dubai is changing,” said Hoor Al Khaja, acting vice-president for international operations at Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET).
“More and more people are traveling to Dubai to visit and work remotely. Even with this tourist market, a lot of our reps choose to come in early and take advantage of the holidays to do some sightseeing. Some choose to stay after the show to enjoy their time here ,” Al Khaja told the Khaleej Times on the sidelines of the Arabian Tourism Market 2022, which opened on Monday.
“The city has been thriving with new market segments and new demographics. We are working hard to cater to this new market by offering a range of new visas. We closely monitor their behavior, search trends, etc., to meet their needs.”
Hoor Al Khaja is the Acting Vice President for International Business at the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.
In the first two months of 2022 alone, Dubai will see 2.2 million tourists. According to Hoor Al Khaja, one of the reasons Dubai has become so popular is the way the city has handled the Covid-19 pandemic. “We closed quickly and reopened quickly, but our reopening was very thoughtful and safe. It shows us how agile and resilient we are as a city.”
When the world closes, we move on and open everything we promised. We have opened many new attractions, from Ain Dubai to Deep Dive to Museum of Future. So there’s plenty for visitors to see and do as the world emerges from the pandemic.
some trends
suit: More and more people choose to combine business and leisure in the city. Several people opted to work remotely while on a city break.
Conscious Traveler: People are more actively searching for safety protocols and safety measures before travelling. This is especially true for those with families. In this regard, Dubai has become more attractive as people realize that the city is safe and easily accessible
Short booking lead times: Traditionally, many of our travelers in markets like Europe or the US book months or even a year in advance. However, with all the uncertainty and volatility that comes with travel, many choose to book weeks in advance.
Sustainability: More and more travelers are becoming concerned about the environment, which can influence their decision to choose a destination. People are choosing cities that match their ethos. Through initiatives such as Dubai Can – which encourages residents to carry refillable bottles instead of single-use plastic bottles – Dubai is catering to this segment of travellers.
Long term visitors: There is a steady increase in long-term visitors. No more static visitors coming and going. Tourist demographics have shifted significantly, and they’re staying back for longer.
