A spokesperson for the organization said it had taken control of the last stubborn province, but opposition forces vowed to continue fighting.

The Taliban claimed to have defeated the opposition in the last tenacious Panjshir Province and completed the takeover of Afghanistan three weeks after occupying Kabul.

Chief Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said on Monday: “With this victory, our country is completely free from the quagmire of war.”

The Anti-Taliban National Resistance Front (NRF) promised to continue fighting in the Panjshir Valley, saying that it is in a “strategic position” and that “the fight against the Taliban…will continue.”

The whereabouts of resistance leader Ahmed Masood and former Vice President Amrullah Saleh who joined the resistance after the fall of Kabul are unclear.

At the same time, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Brinken has flown to Qatar to discuss the chaotic consequences of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The following are the latest updates:

Afghanistan says it will not announce a new government in “a few days”

“The government may currently be a caretaker government, with room for reforms, changes and other basic steps,” Zabihullah Mujahid said at a press conference in the capital Kabul.

“In the next few days, we will witness the government’s announcement,” he said, adding that “no elections are currently visible.”

“The next government will decide how the next procedure will proceed,” Mujahid said.

The Taliban say the war must end in Afghanistan

“There is no excuse for the war to continue,” spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said at a news conference in the capital Kabul.

“The country needs to move more towards stability. No one is allowed to cause chaos in any corner of the country,” he added.

“We want to resolve the Panjshir issue through negotiations, and we are working very hard. But some people who fled Kabul carrying weapons and vehicles from the treasury want to disrupt the country. They responded negatively to our delegation. Panjshir In the hands of the security forces,” Mujahid said.

The Taliban demand that the former Afghan army integrate into the new regime

The Taliban called on former members of the Afghan army to merge with the new ruler.

Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid (Zabihullah Mujahid) said at a press conference in the capital Kabul: “Afghan forces trained in the past 20 years will be required to rejoin the security service with members of the Taliban.”

The spokesman added that any rebellion against their rule would be “heavy” after it was said earlier that they had occupied the Panjshir Valley.

“The Islamic Emirate is very sensitive to rebellion. Anyone who tries to launch a rebellion will be hit hard. We will not allow another one,” Mujahid said.

British Minister said it was wrong for Afghan veterans to commit suicide

A junior British defense minister said that he was wrong to say that some former British soldiers committed suicide in anger due to the US-led withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

“We are very, very carefully investigating whether anyone has taken their lives in the past few days,” Junior Secretary of Defense James Heappey told BBC TV.

Heappey earlier told Sky News that some British Afghan veterans ended their lives in destruction due to the chaotic withdrawal of the US-led army and the victory of the Taliban. A spokesperson for the British Ministry of Defence denied that veterans committed suicide due to withdrawal.

The Taliban claimed to have “completely captured” Panjshir

A Taliban spokesman stated that it has taken full control of Panjshir Province, the last area controlled by the resistance, because the organization consolidated its control of the country after occupying Kabul for three weeks.

At the same time, the NRF spokesperson stated that the Taliban’s claimed victory was wrong and the opposition forces continued to fight.

Before the Taliban’s announcement, tNRF admitted that it had suffered considerable losses on the battlefield and called for a ceasefire.
