Abu Dhabi Police has urged drivers to be more careful and avoid distractions while driving.

Authorities have uploaded a video online of a serious accident involving a distracted driver.

Video shows a car entering the intersection out of sequence and crashing into another car. Then the car lost control.

Authorities urged motorists to refrain from using their phones to browse social networking apps, the internet or answer calls, reiterating that the accident was the result of a driver’s inattention.

Motorists are also asked to be aware of pedestrians, signs and surroundings to avoid accidents.

The authorities also said that the fine for jumping the signal is Dh1,000, 12 demerit points and their vehicles will be impounded for 30 days.

The vehicle can also be sold after 3 months if the fine is not paid.
