Italian agricultural exports to UAE up 46%

World exports of Italian agricultural products reached a historic 60 billion euros last year, up 17 percent, according to the Italian Trade Agency (ITA).

In a statement, the trade body said the trend was stronger in the UAE, with growth of 46% between January 2022 and November 2022, reaching a record high of nearly 400 million euros.

This week at the Italian Pavilion at Gulfood 2023 (Dubai World Trade Centre, 20-24 February) and its 180 exhibitors will be presenting a large number of samples of this authentic Italian product, unrivaled all over the world Synonymous with quality and variety in dispute.

In the Italian Food Lab organized by the Italian Trade Agency, a government agency promoting Made in Italy worldwide according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Michelin-starred chefs include Saverio Sbaragli (Al Muntaha* Burj Al Arab) ) and Giovanni Papi (Armani Ristorante* Burj Khalifa and other Italian chefs working in the most prestigious UAE restaurants will prepare classic Italian recipes using only 100% authentic and authentic Italian ingredients, with a special focus on pizza, ice cream and coffee.

Italian cuisine is considered one of the best in the world for its wide variety of delicious and healthy dishes. High-quality raw materials and high safety standards throughout the food and production process contribute to the success of Italian food worldwide.

Food and drink products made in Italy are among boosters worldwide and in the UAE: wine and other beverages (€8 billion globally; €68 million in the UAE, up 61%); pasta and cereals (over €7 billion in global exports; The UAE exported 50 million euros, an increase of 31%). Exports of extra virgin olive oil, as well as cheese and cured meats, also saw significant growth.

Organic raw materials also contributed to the growth: in 2022, the global sales of organic raw materials made in Italy will reach 3.4 billion euros (+16% compared to 2021). Long-term growth (181% increase compared to 2012, almost tripling in value) and the export share of the Made in Italy food basket (6% of total Italian exports) also demonstrate the recognition of Italian organic agricultural exports in 2022 compared to 4% in 2012).

Matteo Zoppas, Director General of the Italian Trade Agency, together with Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, inaugurated Gulfood’s Italian Pavilion and Italian Food Laboratory.

In fact, organic farming plays a fundamental role in helping to maintain soil fertility and combat climate change, environmental and biodiversity loss. Italy, with 17.4% of the total area planted in bioagriculture (2.1 million hectares, 79% more than in 2012), has one of the highest numbers of companies in the organic sector in Europe – more than 80,000.

In terms of product certification, with 842 classifications, Italy ranks first in Europe for recorded and protected food agricultural and viticultural products, accounting for 21% of Italian food agricultural exports.

The use of phytosanitary products in Italian agriculture has fallen by -32% over the past decade, confirming its position as the most sustainable country in Europe. Italian industry, which produces 30 million tons of CO2 equivalent, is also more ethical than any other EU country.
