EDGE wins new $1.58 billion contract for UAE Armed Forces

[ad_1]

EDGE Group entity Halcon, a regional leader in the design and production of guided weapons systems, among other areas, has signed two major agreements worth AED5.8 billion (US$1.58 billion) with the UAE Armed Forces to supply advanced munitions.

The first AED4.7 billion (US$1.28 billion) contract is to supply the UAE Armed Forces with Halcon’s Desert Sting 25 (DS-25), a lightweight air-to-surface precision-guided munition designed to be deployed racks on aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The second, worth AED 1.1 billion, is the supply of Hunter 2-S (swarm), Hunter 5 and Hunter 10 loitering ammunition to the UAE Armed Forces.

Saeed Al Mansoori, Senior Vice President of Advanced Concepts, a business unit of EDGE, said: “The DS-25 is a precision munition with an effective standoff range and the ability to be integrated onto a variety of aircraft types. We are delighted to be able to provide this capability to the UAE Armed Forces and further strengthen our relationship as we seek to deliver innovative products made in the UAE.”

He added: “Halcon is also proud to be at the forefront of developing sovereign defense capabilities under the UAE’s ‘Make it in the Emirates’ initiative. Furthermore, the DS-25 will be produced in our cutting-edge manufacturing facility, which embodies the The government’s Industry 4.0 plan.”

The DS-25 is part of Halcon’s Desert Sting family of lightweight precision-guided glide weapons designed to accurately strike targets with varying payloads and ranges. The DS-25 PGM contract reinforces EDGE and Halcon’s commitment to the UAE Armed Forces to provide advanced systems and solutions to enable mission flexibility and ensure the security of the UAE.

Halcon’s Hunter series of fixed-wing loitering missiles are designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and air strike missions. The Hunter 2-S is an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to perform coordinated missions in swarms. Additionally, the Hunter 2-S, 5, and 10 are shipped in on-board containers. The deal will mark a major milestone for EDGE as it includes the first UAE-made defense solution integrating advanced artificial intelligence.

Advanced Concepts is a new business unit within EDGE dedicated to the design and deployment of advanced innovative technologies. Complementing EDGE’s existing capabilities in developing, producing and commercializing new products, the division is focused on accelerating the rapid development of key innovation projects from concept definition and technical feasibility phase (TRL6+) to detailed engineering The project was handed back to the company for the industrialization and commercialization of EDGE’s vast product portfolio. – trade arab news agency
