WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 (PTI) — The United States will nominate Indian-American business leader Ajay Banga to head the World Bank, President Joe Biden announced on Thursday.
“Ajay is uniquely equipped to lead the World Bank at this pivotal moment in history,” President Biden said in a statement.

Banga, 63, currently serves as vice chairman of General Atlantic. Previously, he served as President and CEO of Mastercard, where he led the company’s strategic, technological and cultural transformation.
“He has spent more than 30 years building and managing successful global companies that create jobs and bring investment to developing economies, and guide organizations through periods of fundamental change.

“He has a proven track record of managing people and systems and working with global leaders around the world to get results,” Biden said.
Banga was awarded the Padmasambhava in 2016.
