The new entity is responsible for coordinating federal and local media efforts and aligning state and local media policies to highlight and promote national identity.
The committee is tasked with proposing the necessary legislation, rules and standards to organize and license media outlets and activities, including online media and publishing in the UAE and free zones.
It is also responsible for media content follow-up, registration and accreditation of media professionals and journalists from foreign media organizations based in the UAE and free zones.
Members of the committee include Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid Al Qasimi, President of the Emir Court of Ras Al Khaimah, and Saeed Mohammed Al Eter, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Strategic Projects and Chairman of the UAE Government Media Office.
Other members include: Mariam Eid Al Muhairi, Director, Media Office, Abu Dhabi; Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Dubai Media Council and Director, Media Office, Government of Dubai.
Dr. Khalid Omar Al Midfa, Chairman, Sharjah Media City; Dr. Saeed Saif Al Matroushi, Secretary-General, Ajman Executive Council; Mohammed Suroor Al Naqbi, Acting Secretary-General, Umm Al Quwain Executive Council; Mohammed Saeed Al Hamour, Director, Al Fujairah Culture and Media Authority Al Yamahi is also a member of the UAE Media Council.
