It’s been a year for Kevin Hart. After being first announced as Yas Island’s chief island officer (cio) last May, the beloved comedian has been busy creating ‘Hart to beat’, Abu Dhabi’s family destination, over the past few months.
Through a series of hilarious video clips, the Hollywood actor has been using his signature humorous style to highlight the island’s many attractions – from Ferrari World (home to the world’s fastest roller coaster) and Warner Bros. WorldTM (the world’s largest indoor theme park) to ClymbTM (with the world’s tallest indoor skydiving flight chamber).
However, it now appears that Hart’s reign as CIO is coming to an end. In a new video released by Destination Island, Hart reflects on the past year as he speeds down the streets of the capital to Yas Marina in a glitzy white Ferrari. “Am I taking the most interesting island in the world to the next level?” he mused. “Is Yas Island finally ‘invincible’?”
See for yourself, he said, standing on a gorgeous yacht, announcing that he was indeed saying goodbye to the role. “Ma salama,” he said, saying goodbye in Arabic. “I have to go now.”
But as soon as he finished speaking, the comedian was caught off guard by a new development. New signage has appeared on the facade of W Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island as the yacht begins to drift away. “New Chief Island Officer Now Recruiting” was emblazoned in large, shiny letters. Looks like the big thing is yet to come.

“The best job in the world”
This isn’t the first time Yas Island has made waves on social media this year. In early January, the leisure and entertainment destination caused a stir by announcing a competition for ‘World’s Best Job’ – a position that will offer successful applicants a salary of US$100,000 (Dh367,000).
Looking for Island Ambassador candidates, the competition was announced by Kevin Hart himself. Candidates over the age of 21 are encouraged to apply by submitting a video explaining how they will “Hartify Yas Island” if they snag the role.
Shortlisted contestants have the opportunity to participate in live radio interviews for the second round of the competition. The winner, marketer Ayax Bader, was finally announced last month as the destination’s new ambassador.
The expat will enjoy a host of benefits after successfully beating thousands of creative entries from around the globe. In addition to the whopping $100,000 prize, he also received a business class flight to Abu Dhabi, 60 days of accommodation in the Fabulous Suite on W Abu Dhabi Yas Island, and pampering spa treatments at the coveted hotel and dining experience.
Now, the big question remains: Who will be next to succeed Kevin Hart? The celebrity reveal will be worth the wait, sources say. Follow this space.
