UAE President, Italian PM discuss trade, relations in Abu Dhabi

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni Ways to build on existing strategic and economic ties were discussed in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

“The two sides discussed avenues for cooperation … especially in the fields of economy, investment and trade, as well as energy security, renewable energy, clean technology and sustainable development,” the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

They also discussed ways to tackle climate change, food safetyindustry and advanced technology.

“The two leaders expressed a desire to work together to accelerate the pace of development of bilateral relations, building on the achievements of the past few years,” the WAM report said.

Sheikh Mohammed “emphasized United Arab EmiratesSupport for peace and cooperation through dialogue and diplomacy”, expressing willingness to cooperate with Italy to achieve regional and global stability and development.

Sheikh Mohammed also said he wanted Italy to participate “actively and influentially” COP28underlined Italy’s interest in tackling climate change and achieving climate neutrality by 2050 – a goal set by the UAE as well.

Meloni arrived in the UAE on Friday for a two-day visit.

She was received by the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr Sultan Jaberis also the President-designate of the United Nations Climate Conference COP28 and the CEO of ADNOC Group.
