go soldier go (carpeture) The best bet is the $170,000 Listed Al Bastakiya in Meydan for trainer Fawzi Nass and jockey Adrie de Vries, sponsored by Arabian Adventures.

The face of the game changed dramatically at the end of Furlong as longtime leaders and G3 Emirates Oaks finished runners up Ami please (Goldencents) begin to wither, leaving Mr Raj (Bolt d’Oro) and Go Soldier Go surged outside later.

Go Soldier Go clinched G2 UAE Derby glory over the span of three weeks in beating Mr Raj and winning by a head. The filly was another three lengths behind for third.

De Vries later said, “He needed time to get going. Actually, he was walking pretty well, but I was stuck behind a wall of downed horses. The horses ahead were getting further and further away, but there was nothing I could do. Once I Clearly off, I of course had to run towards him to make up so much ground, but once he got off the bounce, he had beautiful strides and he kept going. He had a lot of stamina.”

The jockey added: “He’s been doing well at home but when he’s between horses he’s still pretty immature and on a bigger field like today it’s hard to avoid kickbacks. But once he did, he performed very well.”

Go Soldier Go and Mr Raj are graduates of the inaugural Goffs Dubai Breeze Up Sale. The Go Soldier Go was bought by Chad Schumer in Keeneland in September for $45,000 and was sold for more than €120,000 when commissioned by Church Farm and Horse Park Stud at last year’s Breeze event. Price sold to Nass. Mr Raj was commissioned by Gaybrook Lodge and sold to Ahmad Bintouq for €86,773. Never out of five Meydan races, the winner won the 1900m conditional race on 5 February at 5 1/2 lengths.

Go Soldier Go is Better Again (Thunder Gulch), one of only two winners out of four, his first, although two of her daughters have given birth to black horses, including the New Mexico winner Better Believe (Marking) ) and Marking. Australian Group 1 champions Forbidden Love (Aus) (All Too Hard {GB}) are in the big family.
