Erica Hawley started her season today in 45th place in the first race of the World Triathlon Championships series in Abu Dhabi.
Hawley of the Asics World Triathlon Development Team completed the 750m swim in 10:19, 5 laps of the 20km race in 31:09 and 2 laps of the 5km race in a total time of 17:52. One hour, one minute and eight seconds, just over three minutes behind winner Beth Potter.
It’s been an encouraging start to the season for the 24-year-old, who is determined to break through at the top level and maintain a solid season in the main WTCS competitions to boost her Olympic qualification prospects.
Spearheaded by Porter, compatriot Sophie Caldwell, American duo Summer Rappaport and Taylor Spivey, and Lena Meissner and Luisa Baptista, the six The human detachment was brought out of the water.
Surprisingly, No. 1 Georgia Taylor-Brown was not with them, with the 2022 runner-up 30 seconds out of the water and returning Katie Zaferes 40 seconds behind the leader.

That’s how it held up on the fifth and final loop of the F1 circuit, with Coldwell slightly out of the second transition ahead, but there was still nothing to say between the leaders.
Baptista was the first to disappear as Rappaport picked up the early pace before Potter found her groove and took the lead, with Spivey fourth and Meissner fifth as the leader started on the first ascent When pulling the cord, only Coldwell can keep in touch with her team-mates.
Steinhauser led the charge behind, with Emma Lombardi, Miriam Casillas Garcia and Nina Eim on her shoulders.
The two Brits were 10 seconds ahead of Spivey and Rappaport when the bell rang, with the likes of Lombardi, Steinhauser and Cassandre Bogland on the heels of Messner and Tyler-Brown now leading by a minute .
The bell also heralded that Caldwell was about to rush to the front. Not even planning to race in Abu Dhabi, where she suddenly dreams of winning the first series win, but Porter is also hungry for maiden gold.
The final hill was time for Porter’s attack and Caldwell was unable to respond as the Commonwealth Games bronze medalist came off the final 500m.
Spivey took the podium ahead of Rappaport, who beat Meissner. Beaugrand was sixth, with Eim, Lombardi, Steinhauser and Lisa Tertsch rounding out the top ten.
