Dubai Chamber sends trade mission to Central Asia

Dubai International Chamber of Commerce, one of three chambers under the Dubai Chamber umbrella, has launched New Horizons, a new initiative to drive international expansion of its members into new markets.

“New Horizons” allows companies to participate in roadshows to gain first-hand knowledge on how to establish and conduct business in various selected countries and priority markets.

The first event in the ‘New Horizons’ series of events, 14-21 March 2023, saw a large delegation of Dubai business leaders travel to Central Asia to better understand and explore business opportunities in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan .

The delegation, led by Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chamber, will involve 26 Dubai-based companies representing 16 industries. Delegates gathered today at the Dubai Chamber headquarters for a briefing ahead of the trade mission, revealing details of the trip and more on the economic outlook of the three countries.

New Horizons is based on the “In Focus” program. The two initiatives are designed to help drive the member’s international expansion, while supporting Dubai’s plan to increase the emirate’s foreign trade to AED2 trillion ($540 billion) by 2026. One of the Chamber’s main goals is to support 100 businesses expanding globally over the next two years.

The ‘In Focus’ event in Dubai aims to connect Dubai businesses with country-specific public and private sector leaders to spark interest in these regions as potential destinations for international business expansion, And guide them through every stage of their international growth journey. The first In Focus event will be held in December 2022, putting the Central Asian market under the spotlight.

Lootah said: “The In Focus and New Horizon programs reflect our ongoing efforts to connect our members with new opportunities for business growth in priority markets around the world. Through events in Dubai and key markets or countries, we The aim is to encourage domestic businesses to build an international presence while promoting Dubai as a thriving global investment hub and encouraging foreign direct investment and new partnerships from the markets we visit.”

Lootah added that the upcoming trade mission will provide participating business leaders from Dubai with insights, information and guidance on exporting or investing in Central Asia. “We will soon begin this exciting trade mission, which will include lectures by local experts, pre-arranged business matching events, networking sessions and site visits to industrial and economic zones, as well as cultural and engagement activities. New Horizons in Central Asia It will enable all of us to engage in focused and meaningful discussions with government and private sector policy makers in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan,” he added.

Among the three countries, the largest contributors to GDP include manufacturing, trade, transport, agriculture and construction. UAE exports to these Central Asian countries include electronics, cars, machinery and tobacco. Central Asia is already an important market for Dubai: in 2021, Dubai’s non-oil trade with the three countries will reach $2.4 billion.

Business partner

This provides companies in a wide range of industries the opportunity to find trading partners and develop new bilateral trade agreements. Many opportunities exist for Dubai businesses in areas such as agriculture, metallurgy, tourism and construction.

Trade missions are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage with public and private sector leaders to foster cross-border partnerships and drive mutual business growth. The eight-day roadshow will take place in four cities: Tashkent, Uzbekistan; Astana and Almaty, Kazakhstan; and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
