Event provides valuable insights into women-led businesses in the UAE

Participants celebrate International Women’s Day during the event.

The Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa), in partnership with the Sharjah Business Women’s Council (SBWC) and Female Fusion, organized an event to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March 2023.

Held at the House of Wisdom in Sharjah as part of the ‘Sheraa Community Talks’ programme, the event includes insightful speakers, interactive discussions and networking opportunities aimed at helping women entrepreneurs build meaningful connections with other business owners.

Entitled “Her Story: Celebrating Women Who Inspire,” the event drew female entrepreneurs from across the country, gave attendees the opportunity to gain new insights and strategies for success, and celebrated the incredible achievements of women in business.

Following a networking session where attendees had the opportunity to meet and connect with women in business, Iman Ben Chaibah, Maryam Bin Al Shaikh and Jen Blandos, representing Sheraa, SBWC and Female Fusion respectively, then introduced their organizations and welcomed attendees.

The Founders’ One-Minute Spotlight was a unique part of the event, with nine entrepreneurs talking about their new ventures and what help they needed from their audience to support them. Facilitating the conference, the three organizations also played an important role in nurturing the nine founders and their emerging companies, and helping attendees understand the challenges other entrepreneurs face and how they can support them .

The highlight of the Women’s Day event was a panel discussion featuring two speakers from SBWC Sheraa and two from Female Fusion, dynamic entrepreneurs from different industries. Yasmine El Mouallem, founder of Maternally, passionately highlights the importance of maternal mental health and self-care materials, and how her business seeks to fill the gap in maternal mental health by providing more targeted content than the average social media and text group support. Halajary’s founder, Dr. Muna Aldhabbah, shares her vision for innovation: to connect people and empower women, while fostering meaningful real-life relationships and supporting small businesses in local communities.

Yara Bin Shakar, owner of Yara Bin Shakar Label and co-founder of House of 45, further enlivened the discussion as she shared her experience as a fashion designer committed to creating sustainable clothing, offering valuable tips for starting a business, And emphasized the importance of communication with the market one-on-one. Aya Assaf, co-founder of Koala Picks, captivated the audience with her innovative approach to providing healthier snacks for children, emphasizing the need to think outside the box and adapt to changing market demands.

Pamela Lilburne, CEO and founder of Linen Obsession, which supplies top brands to department stores and recently opened their first flagship store, expresses a strategic and analytical mindset, advising viewers to focus on solving problems and building lasting relationships with customers Relationship. Finally, Arabee co-founder Ferakh Lakhany showcased her passion for education and data-driven strategies, sharing her experience in creating an interactive learning platform for Arabic learning and working with the UAE Ministry of Education to improve Arabic in schools. Her client-centric approach, design thinking, and dramatic growth to over 50,000 children over the past 5 years is a testament to how her programs pay off.

During the discussion, speakers shared their personal experiences, insights and lessons learned as entrepreneurs and explained the importance of organizations such as Sheraa, SBWC and Female Fusion guiding and nurturing them as they grow successful businesses. The collaboration between these three organizations demonstrates the power of working together to support women entrepreneurs in realizing their dreams, showing them that they are not alone and that there is a supportive community that can help them succeed.

The Sharjah Center for Entrepreneurship (Sheraa)’s new ‘Sheraa Community Talks’ initiative recently hosted its first discussion at the House of Wisdom in Sharjah, entitled ‘How Padels Change Communities’.

The presentation brought together padel enthusiasts and club owners from across the UAE to share personal and professional experiences and insights into the many opportunities for physical development and social engagement that this fast-paced, socially accessible sport can offer.
