UAE announces Ramadan timing for state employees

United Arab Emirates (UAE) posted Ramadan State news agency WAM reported on Friday the working hours of federal agencies and ministries.

According to the UAE Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR), the official working hours of ministries and federal authorities are Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 14:30 and Friday from 9:00 to 12:00.

FAHR emphasized that ministries and federal authorities can implement flexible working or teleworking schedules during Ramadan according to their specific requirements, WAM said.

Reducing working hours is one of the most notable changes brought about by Ramadan. Employers should reduce working hours by two hours without taking a pay cut, which also applies to non-Muslims.

Under the country’s labor laws, workers in the private sector are required to work eight hours a day or 48 hours a week. During the holy month, however, working hours are reduced by two hours per day, meaning workers only need to work six hours per day or 36 hours per week.
