Muscat – Tourists from the UAE make up a significant portion of the 2.9 million international overnight visitors Oman is expected to receive in 2022.
Tourists from the UAE to Oman have increased by 6,000% to 1,357,559 by 2022, compared to 22,322 in 2021, the largest source market for Oman.
Tourists from India will reach 355,459 in 2022, making it Oman’s second largest source market, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
The data includes the top ten origin countries of the Sultanate, including 81,829 from Germany, 63,570 from the United Kingdom, 48,835 from Iran, 44,815 from France, 42,770 from Saudi Arabia, 37,087 from the United States, 31,704 from China, and 29,986 from Italy.
The ministry confirmed that there are sufficient indicators of a recovery in tourism in the sultanate.
It informed that some projects were in advanced stages of completion while others were under construction.
Omran Group is implementing multiple projects and developing public facilities in multiple provinces.
Omran announced in February the trial opening of the 1,800-meter twin zipline project at Khasab in Musandam. The project is part of an integrated adventure center designed to provide visitors with a unique experience combining adventure and discovery.
Expected to be completed by the end of 2023, the Oman Botanic Gardens will feature a cable car as its main attraction, as well as unique plants and landscaping.
According to the National Center for Statistics and Information, 652,000 people visited the Sultanate in 2021. The Sultanate received 874,444 tourists in 2020 and 3,506,441 in 2019, an increase of 8.2% from 3,241,757 in 2018.
Oman is Dubai’s second largest source market
Tourists from Oman make a significant contribution to Dubai, attracting 14.36 million international overnight visitors by 2022, a 97% increase from 2021.
Tourists from Oman to Dubai will increase by 369% to 1,311,000 in 2022 compared to 280,000 in 2021, making it the emirate’s second-largest source market after India.
According to the latest figures from Dubai’s Ministry of Economy and Tourism, tourists from India will grow by 102% to 1,842,000 in 2021 from 910,000.
Oman was followed by Saudi Arabia, the UK and Russia as the top five source markets.
