WATCH: UAE police pull drivers over, salute them…

A police patrol that recently patrolled the streets of Abu Dhabi performed a task that many drivers did not expect.

When police pull motorists over, it’s usually because of a traffic violation or an emergency – but in this case, the emirate’s patrols did the opposite: They stopped drivers and rewarded them.

As part of this year’s Gulf Traffic Week, Abu Dhabi Police’s Traffic and Patrol Department launched a campaign titled ‘Your Life Is Safe’.

Under the initiative, which will run until March 12, happiness patrols hit the roads and observe the behavior of drivers. Those who stick to the rules will be stopped and given a gift bag.

However, this is not the first time the transportation department has implemented such a move. Dubai Police have also carried out similar campaigns in previous years.

Lieutenant Mahmoud Yusuf Albarush said: “This honor is given to all drivers who abide by traffic laws to ensure their own safety, the safety of their passengers and the safety of other road users.”

By rewarding good drivers, police also hope they will set an example for other motorists.
