Here’s Why the 2023 Oscars Red Carpet Isn’t Actually Red

[ad_1]

Walking the red carpet for the first time since 1961 Oscars 2023 Actually, well…not red.

A brand new champagne-colored carpet greeted the stars, nominees and hosts at the 95th Annual Academy Awards at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles tonight. Longtime Creative Consultant Lisa Love Fashion Contributor and Met Gala creative director Raúl Àvila pointed to the disconnect between the elegant black-tie dress code and the event’s 3:00 p.m. shift as the reason behind the change.

“We turned what was a daytime event into an evening,” Love said Associated Press“It’s already evening, even though it’s still 3:00 in the morning.”

So, this year, carpet was covered, in part to protect attendees and cameras from the weather, but also to help convert arrivals into an evening event, according to The Associated Press. Love said they tried other darker colors before settling on champagne. “We chose this beautiful Sienna shade, which is reminiscent of sunset saffron, because it’s sunset before golden hour,” she explains.

Love revealed that the creative team isn’t too worried about Oscar traditionalists being hesitant about the change. “There’s always someone who can find a way to figure out what’s wrong,” she said. “It’s just a brightness, and hopefully people like it. That doesn’t mean it’s always a champagne carpet.”

jimmy kimmelShe, who hosts the Academy Awards, had another explanation for the change in color of the carpet during the carpet-rolling ceremony earlier this week. “People keep asking, ‘Is there going to be trouble this year? Is there going to be violence this year?’ We sure hope not,” joked Kimmel, “but if there is, I think choosing the champagne carpet over the red carpet The decision shows our confidence that there will be no bloodshed.”
