LOS ANGELES (AP) — War movies that hate war win Oscar Best International Film Award.

“All Quiet on the Western Front” Starring Felix Camerer and directed and co-written by Edward Berger, it received nine nominations, including Best Picture.

It also won an Oscar for Best Cinematography on Sunday night.

Kammerer and others involved in the film also joined Berger on stage.

“This is your first film and you carry us on your shoulders because it’s nothing,” he told the 27-year-old Austrian actor. “None of us would be here without you.”

Netflix movies Based on Erich Maria Remarque’s 1929 classic novel of the same name. Set during World War I, the story follows the life of a young German soldier enlisting with his friends. But the realities of war shatter his hopes of becoming a hero, and he focuses on his own survival.

However, the German-language film doesn’t quite fit Remarque’s novel. Instead, it deviates from political issues in the context of war. It premiered last year when Russia invaded Ukraine in Europe’s biggest military conflict since World War II, giving the film an unexpected relevance.

‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ wins seven BAFTAsincluding Best Picture.

The original American film starring Lou Ayres debuted in 1930 and won Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director.

It was later made into a TV movie starring Richard Thomas and Ernest Borgnine, which won an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

“All Quiet on the Western Front” beat Argentina’s “Argentina, 1985,” Belgium’s “Close,” Poland’s “EO” and Ireland’s “The Quiet Girl.”
