Reduced working hours for private sector employees

Private sector employees in the United Arab Emirates will be entitled to work two hours less during the period Ramadanthe Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced on Monday.

For employees who normally work eight hours, their working days will be reduced to six, according to the ministry.

“Depending on the job requirements and nature, companies may adopt flexible or remote working models within the daily working hours during Ramadan,” the ministry said.

The proclamation is to implement Clause 2 of Article 15 of Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022 concerning the implementing regulations of Federal Decree No. 33 of 2021 on labor relations and its amendments.

Last week, the UAE government announced reduced school hours and Working Hours for Federal Employees During Ramadan 2023.

The official working hours of ministries and federal authorities during Ramadan are Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm and Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

According to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), private school hours will be reduced to five hours during Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and marks the time when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. The holy month is expected to begin on March 23, pending confirmation from the Islamic Lunar Observatory Committee.

In the United Arab Emirates, people who observe Ramadan must fast for up to 14 hours a day.
