Ellie Goulding credits music with helping her stay “sane”.
The 36-year-old pop star fell in love with music at a young age, which Ellie credits with helping her overcome anxiety.
Ellie, who released her debut album Lights in 2010, told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1: “I remember as a kid, I didn’t know it was anxiety.
“Again, I assumed everyone was scared and anxious about things. Then the second I started… I played clarinet in the orchestra for a long time. Then I taught myself guitar, and then I started Singing. And then my second while learning to sing and play, it was like I was locked in a safe place with my voice and my songs. And then I was like that pretty much all the way from my teens to my twenties.
“Even, like I said, just singing is good for you. I don’t know. It’s always something that keeps me sane. So I don’t think we have a chance to deal with how heavy things [it was] Can’t meet people, can’t perform [during lockdown]”
Ellie loves to perform in front of live audiences, describing the stage as her “safe place”.
The chart-topping star added: “When I say…I promise you, I don’t know what that is. Just when I’m on stage, I can sing…for hours .
“I can… I’m on top. I’m the most confident m************ in the world. But put me in a room with people last night [at] a party. Yes. I do not know what to do. This is not my natural habitat. “
