DETROIT, March 15 (AP) — Honda is recalling half a million vehicles in the United States and Canada because the front seat belts may not lock properly.

The recall affects some of the automaker’s best-selling models, including the 2017 to 2020 CR-V, 2018 and 2019 Accord, 2018 to 2020 Odyssey and 2019 Insight. Also includes the 2019 and 2020 Acura RDX.

In documents released Wednesday by U.S. safety regulators, Honda said the surface coating of the buckle channel degrades over time. The release button can shrink onto the channel at lower temperatures, increasing friction and preventing the buckle from locking.

If the buckle is not engaged, the driver or passenger may not be restrained in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Honda said there have been no reports of injuries related to the issue.

Dealers will replace the front seat belt buckle release button or buckle assembly if required. Starting April 17, property owners will be notified by letter. (Associated Press)
