Doctors at Al Dhafra Hospital in Abu Dhabi have successfully performed laparoscopic surgery to repair a patient’s rectal prolapse.

Rectal prolapse can have a significant negative impact on a patient’s quality of life. It usually affects women, especially those over the age of 50. While this condition is not a medical emergency, if left untreated, patients can experience severe discomfort in addition to possible complications.

Talking about treatment, Saeed Jaber Al Kuwaiti, Group Chief Executive Officer, SEHA said, “Under the direction of SEHA, Al Dhafra Hospital’s world-class treatment aims to bring about the best health solutions to help people live longer, healthier, Happier, more fulfilling lives are in line with PureHealth Group’s primary goal of longevity.”

Further elaborating on the procedure, Dr Bassam Al Mahameed, Consultant and Head of Surgery, Madinat Zayed Hospital, said: “It was accompanied by anal bleeding. Clinical examination revealed that he had complete rectal prolapse. Then he was ready for surgery with a full colonoscopy and some blood work. Surgery is performed laparoscopically. Four small incisions were made in the abdominal wall, the prolapsed sigmoid colon was resected, and the rectum was fixed. The patient was discharged within 4 days of surgery in good condition.

The patient expressed his gratitude: “I would like to thank all the medical staff for their great care and care, and I cannot forget the support they gave me after the operation,” he said.

Laparoscopic rectopexy is one of the procedures used to repair rectal prolapse. The term “laparoscopy” refers to surgery performed through several very small incisions in the abdomen. A laparoscope (a long, thin camera) is placed through an incision near the navel to look inside the abdomen.
