US commemorates 9/11 victims on 20th anniversary of attack-News

[ad_1]

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will stop at all three locations of the attack to commemorate the lives lost

The United States held a solemn ceremony on Saturday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 events, because the recent disorderly withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and the return of the Taliban to power are all the more sad.

Heartbreaking commemorative activities will unfold in three locations, in which 19 hijackers crashed into a crowded airliner, impacted the cultural, financial and political heart of the United States, and changed the world forever.

In Ground Zero in New York, there are now two pools in the former location of the Twin Towers. The relatives will be at 8:30 in the morning (1230 GMT).

Six minutes of silence will be observed, corresponding to the time when the two World Trade Center towers were hit and collapsed, as well as when the Pentagon was attacked and Flight 93 crashed.

Monica Iken-Murphy lost her 37-year-old husband Michael Iken at the World Trade Center, which she said will be a “high” anniversary for many Americans.

But for her, like many other survivors, the pain has never wavered.

“I think it just happened,” she told AFP.

Starting on the morning of September 11, 2001, an entire generation has grown up.

A towering new skyscraper has risen above Manhattan to replace the Petronas Twin Towers. Not two weeks ago, the last group of US soldiers took off from the Kabul airport, ending the so-called “eternal war.”

In Zero Ground, approximately 2,753 people from all over the world were killed in the initial explosion, jumped to death, or simply disappeared into the hell of a collapsed tower.

At the Pentagon, a passenger plane tore a fire pit on the side of the military nerve center of the superpower, killing 184 people on board and on the ground.

In Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the third wave of hijackers crashed into a field after passengers counterattacked. United 93 was shot down before reaching the intended target (probably the US Capitol in Washington).

The White House stated that Biden and first lady Jill Biden will stay at these places on Saturday to “remember and commemorate the lives that have passed.”

The president plans to make this day a pivotal day during his nearly eight-month presidency.

However, Biden will not preside over a moment of unity, but will travel across a country angry at the chaotic evacuation of Kabul.

For the relatives of the victims, the anniversary, as always, is to keep their loved ones alive.

“It’s like Pearl Harbor,” said Frank Siller, whose brother Stephen, a firefighter, died at the World Trade Center.

“People who are not alive feel it differently from people who are alive. But the United States will never forget the Pearl Harbor incident, and the United States will never forget 9/11.”
