Israeli police say two more Palestinian prisoners have been arrested in Israeli-Palestinian conflict news

[ad_1]

The police said the first two fugitives were arrested near Nazareth, and the other two were detained in northern Israel.

Israeli police captured two other Palestinians in the early hours of Saturday morning. They escaped from the highest security prison earlier this week, bringing the number of re-captured prisoners to four.

The authorities have identified the two persons as Zakaria Zubeidi and Mahmoud al-Arida. According to reports, the two were found in a truck garage in northern Israel. News reports quoted the Israeli authorities as saying that Zubedi tried to resist arrest.

Two other Palestinians are still at large.

Earlier Friday, the authorities said they had captured the first two of the six Palestinian fugitives.

A police spokesperson said in a statement that the two were arrested at Cliff Mountain, a holy Christian site near Nazareth.

According to Israeli media reports, the two men arrested were members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

The police did not provide their identities. Videos on social media showed that Israeli police placed two men behind different police cars.

Israel launched a large-scale search for six prisoners who dared to escape from the heavily guarded Gilboa prison on Monday through a tunnel dug under the cell sink.

Early Friday, Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem Take to the street Support the Palestinian prisoners and protest their punishment.

“Prisoners in Palestinian prisons yearn for freedom. They want to live their lives. They are not ordinary criminals, but patriots fighting for freedom,” Mohamed Habesa told Al Jazeera.

“The Israelis put them in prison for occupying Palestinian lands. When the Palestinians took up their weapons, the world called us terrorists, and when we lay down our weapons for peaceful resistance, the Israelis would kill us,” he added .

“Even if we don’t protest peacefully, they will take our land. What can we do?” Habesa said.

Al Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett reported from West Jerusalem that one of the arrested men had been in jail since 1996 and was regarded as the culprit who attempted to escape.

Fawcett said five of the six men who fled on Monday belonged to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and one of them was a senior member of the Fatah armed forces.

The six prisoners were either convicted or suspected of planning or carrying out fatal attacks on Israelis.

Israel has promised to arrest all these people, and officials have stated that they will investigate any mistakes that allow them to escape.

Fawcett said that protests took place in the occupied West Bank and the besieged Gaza Strip, “because the entire Israeli prison network is undergoing widespread repression, especially against members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Hundreds of them are in prison. Between transfers.

“Israel says [it needs] Break the power structure after this unprecedented escape,” Fawcett added.

“The Palestinian Authority and Palestinian advocacy groups say that this is actually a collective punishment and revenge for what happened on Monday. The fate of Palestinian prisoners, especially the fate of senior security prisoners, is very sensitive in all political areas of Palestinian society. .”

The facility where these people fled is approximately 4 kilometers (2 miles) from the West Bank border and is one of Israel’s most secure prisons.
