Pupils and staff at a school in Abu Dhabi are mourning the untimely death of a beloved teacher.

Caina Healy, a physical education teacher at Amity International School in Abu Dhabi, was hit and killed by a car while cycling to school in Al Rahba, Ajban Bridge just before 6am on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old teacher teaches students ages 3 to 18 and is a coach in soccer, swimming, track and field, netball, basketball and triathlon.

During her 4 year tenure at the school, she also assisted with the school’s dance program and was a class tutor for Year 11, helping with revision and study skills.

“Caina is a truly outstanding teacher and mentor,” said Principal Adrian Frost. “You only have to look at the plaque in our front desk to see the tremendous impact she had on the lives of her students and colleagues. Caina is a living testament to what can be achieved with tenacity, perseverance and a growth mindset. “This is an inevitably difficult time for the entire school community, but seeing the compassion that students and staff offer each other at a time when so many are struggling with their own complex and challenging emotions And the support, it’s been really emotional,” Frost said.
