Pupils and staff at a school in Abu Dhabi are mourning the untimely death of a beloved teacher.
Caina Healy, a physical education teacher at Amity International School in Abu Dhabi, was hit and killed by a car while cycling to school in Al Rahba, Ajban Bridge just before 6am on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old teacher teaches students ages 3 to 18 and is a coach in soccer, swimming, track and field, netball, basketball and triathlon.
During her 4 year tenure at the school, she also assisted with the school’s dance program and was a class tutor for Year 11, helping with revision and study skills.
“Caina is a truly outstanding teacher and mentor,” said Principal Adrian Frost. “You only have to look at the plaque in our front desk to see the tremendous impact she had on the lives of her students and colleagues. Caina is a living testament to what can be achieved with tenacity, perseverance and a growth mindset. She A relentless focus on improving her own personal best in the sport, an approach and attitude that transferred to every aspect of her life, including her coaching and teaching.”
Staff describe Keina as a humble, generous and kind person with exceptional personal achievement, while several of her students attribute their achievements, character and values to the guidance and guidance they received from Keena.
“This is an inevitably difficult time for the entire school community, but seeing the compassion that students and staff offer each other at a time when so many are struggling with their own complex and challenging emotions And the support, it’s been really emotional,” Frost said.
“Over the past three days, I’ve heard affirmations from all over the city that she is held in high regard. The sense of loss we are feeling is felt not only within our own school community, but throughout the city.”
Frost also said that he and the entire school are grateful for the support they have received from across the emirate. “We are so grateful to everyone who has come forward to help, provide Amity bereavement guidance and staff assistance counseling.”
