Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced $3 million (Rs 24,74,71,050) to support the reconstruction of the West Bank Palestinian town of Huwara and those affected by recent events, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
The UAE support is implemented by the Abu Dhabi Municipality and the Ministry of Transport in cooperation with the UAE-Palestine Friendship Club, in accordance with the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The initiative is “in the framework of the UAE’s humanitarian efforts in support of the brotherly Palestinian people.”
The move follows reports in Israeli media that the UAE has halted military purchases from Israel amid political turmoil in the country.
The UAE established diplomatic relations with Israel in the summer of 2020 through the US-mediated Abraham Treaty.
Backtracking a bit to February 26, 2023, the Palestinian village of Huwara was vandalized, burned and destroyed by settlers who attacked the town, in addition to the killing of a Palestinian after two settlers were killed by a commando in Shot around town.
