A truck driver who was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road that killed an Arab man has been arrested within four hours of the crime.
The Ras Al Khaimah Police General Command, representing the investigation and traffic control unit, succeeded in apprehending the Asian-American truck driver who knocked down an Arab man on Saturday morning and fled the scene to another emirate.
Major Ahmed Al-Sam Al Naqbi, director of the Traffic and Patrol Department of Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the accident happened at 3.55am on Saturday. The control room received reports of a person being hit by a truck. It was also reported that the driver fled the scene.
He added that police patrols and State Ambulance arrived at the scene of the accident and found the deceased had pulled over and got out of the vehicle.
The driver of the truck accidentally hit the parked vehicle, and the vehicle hit the driver, killing him on the spot. The driver of the truck fled the scene of the accident.
After the body of the deceased was sent to the hospital, a traffic control team was established immediately, with the help of surveillance cameras distributed along the street.
Al Naqbi said search and investigation teams located the truck in an area of ​​Sharjah. The perpetrators were arrested by RAK Police in coordination with the Sharjah Police General Command. The truck driver was later referred to specialized agencies for legal action against him.
