Two Ukrainian soldiers were killed in clashes with separatists | Conflict News

[ad_1]

After Russia annexed the Crimea peninsula in 2014, the Ukrainian army clashed with separatists in Donetsk and Luhansk.

The Ukrainian military said on Sunday that as the conflict escalated, two Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the war-torn eastern part of the country and 10 others were injured.

The military said in a statement that in the past 24 hours, pro-Russian separatists have used large-caliber artillery, grenade launchers and drones to fire on Ukrainian positions. It said that most of the attacks occurred in the eastern part of Donetsk.

The Ukrainian military said: “Due to enemy fire, two members of the joint force were killed.” “There were no victims among the local residents.”

After Russia annexed the Crimea peninsula in 2014, the Ukrainian army clashed with separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Kiev stated that since the beginning of this year, at least 52 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed, compared with 50 last year.

Separatists say they have lost more than 30 soldiers since the beginning of this year.

Ukraine and its Western allies accuse Russia of sending troops and weapons to support the separatists. Moscow denies it.

‘End of the world’

On Friday, Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that it is conceivable to start a “full-scale war” with Russia.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, dismissed the comment as “the end of the world.”

Russia and Belarus held a military exercise involving 200,000 people on Friday, which was one of the country’s largest exercises in recent years.

In April, Russia assembled about 100,000 soldiers on the Ukrainian border, raising concerns that the protracted conflict would escalate significantly. Moscow later announced its withdrawal.
