ABU DHABI, 25th March, 2023 (WAM) — The Zayed People’s High Organization of Resolve, ZHO, has expressed its pride and honor that its member, Abdullah Al Shamsi, who has Down syndrome, joined the Joined the Al Wathba cycling team and officially joined the sport as the first Person of Determination, representing the team in various competitions and competitions.
The ZHO stresses that it is keen to support and encourage all its members to commit to various sports, especially since Abdullah Shamsi loves cycling and running.
Abdullah joined and represented the Al Wathba Cycling Team, becoming a role model and motivation for all his peers who will continue to pursue excellence and creativity in their sport.
ZHO thanks all the officers of the Al Wathba team for their strong support for People of Determination and for supporting its efforts to empower and integrate people of determination into society.
Captain Suliman Al Hammadi, captain of the Al Wathba Cycling Team, emphasized that attracting Abdullah Al Shamsi to the team was a community-based duty and part of the team’s aim to support this category and integrate it with others for sport, in partnership with all coexist.
He emphasized that Abdullah Al Shamsi added value to the team, not a burden. With training, focus and care, we want him to reach a level of excellence that will enable him to reach an international podium.
Al Wathba Cycling Team is a community team formed in 2016. We are passionate about engaging people of all social classes, male and female, of all nationalities and ages to practice cycling, running and more. We seek to bring together people of determination, whom we call heroes of determination, represented by the hero Abdullah Shamsi. This is part of our responsibility as a community team, said Al Hammadi.
Abdullah’s father, Hilal Abdullah Al Shamsi, thanked the ZHO for supporting his son in his pursuit of this level of sporting excellence.
He also thanked the Al Wathba Cycling Team and Director Suliman Al Hammadi for giving his son the opportunity, and asserted Abdullah’s determination to participate in all cycling competitions, local, regional and international, to reach the podium and hoist the UAE flag.
Abdullah’s father recounts how his son joined the Al Wathba Cycling Team; “Abdullah has been practicing cycling for two years as a challenge.
He competed in numerous statewide community competitions and attracted attention. Seven months ago, he got serious about training professionally on the Al Wathba cycle track.
He has demonstrated excellent skill and ability, as well as an understanding of the cycling championship’s direction, which prompted Al Wathba’s management to invite him to the team, which we welcome. “
He added that his son sees cycling as a challenge through which he is determined to become a champion.
He has the support of his family and every member of ZHO.
He competed in the last edition of the UAE Tour in 2023, taking part in the Open 16km time break. Although he was only fifteen years old, he beat the other riders and won the first place.
