UAE criticizes Israel for partial repeal of 2005 disengagement law

i24 News – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday criticized Israeli legislation to repeal parts of the 2005 disengagement law that prohibited Jews from remaining in certain parts of the northern West Bank.

It also called for “support for all regional and international efforts to advance the Middle East peace process and to end the illegal practices that threaten the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office called aspects of the 2005 Gaza disengagement law “discrimination and insult” to Jews living in their “historic homeland” .

Washington called the move “provocative” and a breach of a promise made to the George W. Bush administration in 2005.

The UAE has been one of Israel’s closest allies since a U.S.-brokered precedent deal in 2020 normalized relations between the two countries.
