Mainland Chinese passport holders are exempt from Hong Kong and Macau transit for 7 days in the UAE

Dubai: Are you Chinese living in the UAE? Did you know you can do 7-day visa-free transit in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR)? Methods as below.

According to the websites of the immigration departments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Macau Special Administrative Region, if you are a resident of mainland China and enter these two regions from mainland China, you need to apply for a travel permit. However, if you are a mainland Chinese passport holder residing in the UAE, you can have a 7-day visa-free transit in these two regions.

Transiting through Hong Kong

You can do a 7-day permit-free transit in Hong Kong if you meet one of the following two conditions:

1. You transit from the United Arab Emirates to a third country or region via Hong Kong, except for the country of departure (UAE). Documents you need to provide in this case:
– A valid passport.
– If you are transiting to a third country or region other than Mainland China or Macau, you must provide a connecting flight ticket from Hong Kong to that country or region within seven days of your stay.
– If you transit to mainland China or Macau, you do not need to provide an onward ticket.

2. You transit from mainland China to a third country or region, including the United Arab Emirates, via Hong Kong. The files you should provide in this case:
– A valid passport.
– Onward air tickets from Hong Kong to the country or region within 7 days of your stay.
– A valid visa or residence permit for a third country or region.

Transit via Macau

You can get a 7-day visa-free transit permit in Macau under the following two conditions:

1. Transiting through Macau to a third country or region other than the United Arab Emirates.
2. You are transiting from mainland China to a third country or region, including the United Arab Emirates.

The files you need are:
– valid passport
– Valid UAE visa or residence permit
– show the ticket of your connecting itinerary
– A valid visa from a third country or region other than the UAE (if applicable).
