UAE: Launch of a 2-month competition to build robots for deep space exploration-News

[ad_1]

A new competition will give students the opportunity to build, code, and design robots to perform complex reconnaissance missions on Mars. But that’s not all-they will also work with the team that successfully sent the Hope probe to Mars.

Planet X is a two-month national content, launched by the Emirates Mars Mission in collaboration with the Dubai Air Show in 2021.

The competition aims to help young people in this country build their careers in the fast-growing global aerospace and aviation industry. The winning team will also win prizes of up to 50,000 dirhams.

The challenge started with the prequalification in September, followed by a week of training in October.

Eligible high school and university students will participate in the main challenge during the 2021 Dubai Airshow, from November 14th to 18th.

Omran Sharaf, Project Manager of the UAE Mars Mission-Hope Probe, said: “Empowering youth is an important part of our long-term vision, which is to enhance the country’s global position in all space-related fields and cultivate a team that can break through science and technology. limit.”

The competition aims to inspire young people with scientific, engineering, technical and mathematical skills. Sharaf added that the Planet X challenge will also give students an in-depth understanding of careers in space science.

Sharaf said: “By building and coding robots to successfully perform complex reconnaissance missions on Mars, we will show how exciting and rewarding the space science career is.” The country’s rapid rise in deep space exploration, I believe in our new Competition will achieve this goal. “

The 40 most successful students will be invited to receive rigorous training and guidance from engineers and technical experts. They will learn how to develop state-of-the-art robots and 3D printed aircraft from the Hope Rover Mars mission team.

Finally, to successfully complete the task, students will have to complete various complex challenges. Participants will be required to build ground and aerial robots for planet X reconnaissance missions, and build an unmanned aerial vehicle to glide over the planet Mars.

Timothy Hawes, Managing Director of Tarsus F&E, the organizer of the 2021 Dubai Air Show, said: “Since its launch, the Dubai Air Show has been a platform for cultivating new talent and inspiring the next generation to become part of the global aerospace industry.”

He added: “We are delighted to be able to support major initiatives such as the Emirates mission to Mars, Planet X, to give students the opportunity to showcase their skills, learn from industry-leading experts, and pave the way for their careers in the space industry.”

To enter Planet X, students must complete the prequalification, and the round is now open.

The applicant needs to design an aircraft capable of performing missions on Mars, answer the technical details about how it works in practice, and complete on-site coding challenges.

To participate, please send an email with your team information to emm.edu@mbras.ae.
