Expo 2020 Dubai to add $42.2 billion to UAE economy by 2042

Expo 2020 Dubai will add AED154.9 billion (US$42.2 billion) to the UAE economy from 2013 to 2042 and support 1 million job years, according to a new study.

Ernst & Young Research Says event It opened in October 2021, itself delayed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with 24.1 million visits.

The campaign and its legacy are expected to support 1.039 million full-time equivalent (FTE) work-years, equivalent to 35,000 FTE jobs per year.

The industries contributing the most global value added (GVA) are event organization and business services (AED 75.5 billion), construction (AED 31.9 billion) and restaurants and hotels (AED 23.1 billion).

A statement from Dubai Expo City said the pre-event phase contributed about a quarter of GVA, the event itself increased by almost 13%, while most of the economic gains (62%) would be realized in the legacy phase to 2042.

Some of the Expo 2020 Dubai attractions, notably the UAE’s own exhibits, Terra, the Sustainability Pavilion, Alif, the Mobility Pavilion, the Vision Pavilion and the Women’s Pavilion, as well as the three new National Stories exhibitions remain open.

Earlier this month, it was announced that apartment, townhouse and villa communities would be built on the site under developments called Expo Valley and Expo Central.
