ABU DHABI, 31st March, 2023 (WAM) — The UAE today sent a plane carrying 38 tonnes of emergency medical and food supplies to Afghanistan to meet the thousands of Afghan families affected by the recent earthquake that hit northeastern Afghanistan demand.
The earthquake caused many casualties and destroyed infrastructure.
The supply of these supplies is part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to provide emergency relief to countries affected by natural disasters and strengthen humanitarian support for vulnerable groups such as women, children and the elderly.
In this regard, relief supplies will help people affected by the earthquake, which exacerbates the current humanitarian situation.
The UAE’s humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan from 2021 to 2022 include the activation of the Relief Air Bridge, dispatching 28 aircraft carrying 623 tons of medical and food supplies, benefiting approximately 1.1 million people, including 850,000 women and children. The UAE’s relief efforts also helped mitigate the impact of the earthquake that hit Khost in southeastern Afghanistan last June, where the UAE built a 1,000-square-meter field hospital with 75 beds to treat 200 patients a day. In addition, the UAE has sent medical supplies, equipment and teams specialized in treating injuries caused by natural disasters.
