Umm Al Quwain Police has announced that a new solar-powered automatic control radar will be activated from Monday 3 April to monitor and catch motorists who do not stop at pedestrian crossings.

Police said the radar had been activated to reduce the run-over and subsequent loss of life and property caused by some motorists failing to stop at the pedestrian crossing.

The move follows several road safety campaigns organized by the Home Office. Authorities have urged motorists to obey traffic rules and give way to pedestrians when crossing zebra crossings.

According to traffic regulations, motorists will be fined Dh500 and 6 points for not giving way to pedestrians

Some time ago, Abu Dhabi’s roads were fitted with artificial intelligence (AI)-powered radars to monitor and catch motorists not stopping at pedestrian crossings.
