CASSELBERRY, Fla. — A 21-year-old Apopka man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man, the Casselbury Police Department said Friday.

Dereck Lavon Cummings II was shot and killed Jan. 28 at his Carrington Park apartment on Howell Branch Road near Howell Lake Road, police said.
Investigators say Cummings, a father and entertainment promoter, had just finished a show at LaBelle’s Caribbean restaurant at South Orange Drive and Southland Avenue when Oizumi Woods and Bobby Houston Bridges III were at The parking lot circled for about 40 minutes, waiting for Cummings to leave.
Detectives said surveillance footage from a Home Depot store near the restaurant helped them determine the suspect was driving a white Infiniti, which was seen following Cummings’ black Chevrolet Camaro as he drove home later.

Once at the apartment complex, the men tried to rob Cummings, who was fleeing from them, and shot him, police said.
Surveillance video showed the Infiniti being sped away after the shooting, police said.
“He lost his life because we believed someone wanted what he had — money,” Casselbury Police Chief Larry Krantz said.

Kranz said he did not believe Cummings knew the suspect.
“It’s pretty scary,” he said. “What drives these people to behave in this way? I’ve been dumbfounded many times. Why would someone want something that someone else has and would do such a heinous thing?”
Anyone with information on Bridges’ whereabouts is urged to call 911 or Crimeline.
Police said he may still be in the area, but he also frequented Atlanta, Georgia.
